Talking Partners @ Primary, 2 Day Training

Supporting your school's changing demographic

Outline

Academic success is closely linked to both vocabulary knowledge and fluency in the use of grammatical structures and many children need enhanced opportunities to develop these through structured speaking and listening activities.

Talking Partners @ Primary is the latest version of the Talking Partners oral language programme which has proven effectiveness in raising levels of achievement in writing for speakers of English as an additional language as well as other groups of learners whose spoken English is restricting their academic potential.

This 2-day course will provide you with all the materials and strategies required to set up and run this intervention. Please note that it is recommended that 2 delegates from each school attend: 1 senior/middle leader to co-ordinate the intervention and 1 TA to deliver it.

Description

There will be opportunities to:
  • reflect on what effective speaking and listening development consists of as part of quality-first teaching;
  • review and try out the strategies that make up the intervention; and
  • consider the organisation of Talking Partners @ Primary as an intervention.

Please note that it is recommended that 2 delegates from each school attend: 1 senior/middle
leader to co-ordinate the intervention and 1 TA to deliver it.
There is a charge for this course to cover the costs of one set of materials per school and
lunches for 2 delegates. Subsequent support meetings are provided free of charge to Havering
LA primaries.
