This course was developed by a former fire officer and will provide delegates with an understanding and practical use of portable fire extinguishers & blankets. Delegates will have the opportunity to tackle real controlled fires.
This course has been designed to develop the delegate's competence in the use of portable fire fighting equipment. The course will cover: Fire awareness; Classes of fire; Extinguishers (theory of, types, jet & spray extinguishers, siting, maintenance requirements, safe use of); The speed of fire and smoke spread. The course is divided into a theory and practical element. The practical element will allow delegates to have hands on experience of using different types of equipment (foam & CO2) on real fires in a controlled situation (delegates tackling the fire will be instructed 1:1 whilst the gas-fueled fire simulators are controlled by our fire technician). Delegates will be assessed during the practical element of the course. Delegates which demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skill will be provided with a certificate of competence. Delegate competence will have increased through greater understanding of how fires start and spread, when it is safe to tackle a fire with a portable extinguisher, and the classes of fire different extinguishers are suitable for. They will have gained practical experience of handling extinguishers.
This course is aimed at employees who need to understand, when it is safe and how to use a portable fire extinguisher or fire blanket.
