Colourful Semantics and Lego-based Therapy

Outline

The CAD 5-19 Support Team have arranged a morning of workshops to introduce the theory and demonstrate how Colourful Semantics and Lego-based Therapy can be used to support children with speech, language and social communication difficulties. The practical workshops are aimed at SENCos, teachers and TAs/LSAs. They will be hands-on, small group sessions using practical resources, led by Advisory Teachers and Specialist Assistants for Speech, Language and Social Communication.

Description

Colourful Semantics is an intervention regularly recommended by the Speech and Language Therapy team. It uses a colour coded approach to support sentence construction and understanding question words. It is simple to use and can be adapted for all levels. It can be used individually and in the classroom.
Lego-based Therapy is a structured social skills group that develops turn taking skills, collaborative skills, joint attention, negotiation skills and how to ask for and accept help. An adult leads a group of three children, who each adopt a specific role for the building task.

Outcomes

To feel confident to use Colourful Semantics and Lego-based Therapy to support children with speech, language and social communication difficulties.
